What We Offer
Apart from individual tuition in acting and voice we offer something unique that our colleagues don’t provide:
An integrated voice into acting process offered by an acting teacher and voice teacher working together.
We understand how to connect actors to their own creative and physical selves, to other actor/characters, and to the audience. Ever found yourself just reciting text – quietly mumbling or emptily declaiming? We’ve all done it. But what you want is to fully inhabit and experience a role imaginatively and physically as if you are the character. We will guide you through an integrated and organic process towards experiencing and embodiment.
Through this integrated connection to text, the action and other actors, we also create connection to our
all-important audience.
This new, integrated working has been called ‘groundbreaking’, ‘holistic and creative’, ‘cohesive and fully integrated’, ‘unique and valuable’.
“We have worked with many actors in the profession who have been taught and directed by Christina and John, and we have seen the work in action at first hand: actors giving technically secure, truly connected performances, time and time again, in all sorts of contexts and in all sorts of circumstances” – Edda Sharpe and Jan Haydn Rowles, authors of HOW TO DO ACCENTS.
Integrate. Connect. Communicate.
We can help you become a better actor and improve your chances of work.

I also trained in Michael Chekhov’s techniques and teach his imaginative character creation exercises such as Imaginary Centre and Psychological Gesture.
I work closely with Christina Gutekunst, Head of Voice at East 15 Acting School, who co-authored Voice Into Acting, and incorporate our joint emphasis on creating a centred, free and experienced performance that integrates voice and body organically.
Tuition can be for individuals, a pair or group, either face to face, or via Zoom.
It can comprise as much or as little of the above as you wish; from a one-off session to a full course of Stanislavski-based training.
Tuition fees are negotiable according to each person’s requirements and circumstances. Let’s have a conversation to find a suitable arrangement.

Voice into Acting
Christina’s expertise is to integrate voice and acting process and make the voice responsive to every circumstance, action and interaction; to make the voice fully expressive of every imaginative and sensory impulse and bring to life the imaginary world of a play.
I use my own specifically developed and proven exercises, within which I focus on:
• Ease and a sense of play
• Anchoring and lengthening the spine, the backbone of the character
• Tapping into organic breathing for vocal ease of expression
• Centred onset of sound
• Exploring responsiveness in pitch range and resonance
• Clear and purposeful articulation
• Filling the space with ease and contacting any size of audience
• Analysis and practical work on texts of all kinds, classical or modern, speeches and presentations.

Our joint tuition
At the moment we can see individuals, pairs or groups of up to ten for voice into acting classes online.
This is specifically focused on integrating voice and physicality into acting process, rehearsal and performance, and we run it together.
• How can we achieve a centred, rooted, free, easy and experienced performance that integrates voice organically?
• How can voice and acting work become one?
• How do we make psycho-physical links between acting impulses and the muscles of voice?
• How can voice work help an organic acting process?
We prepare with introductory exercises on ease, centring, breath, sensory impulse, and what we define as the receiving and responding system.
We then focus on selected texts, imaginatively analyse them, and do a series of exercises aiming for vocal responsiveness and connection as we:
• Find a sense of ourselves in imaginary circumstances
• Connect, interact and communicate
• Pursue character objectives
• Create sensory awareness
• Allow emotional release through the action
• Explore Michael Chekhov character exercises such as Psychological Gesture and Imaginary Centre
• Explore the formal elements in both modern and classical text – metre, accenting, key words, images, rhetorical colour
